Katelyn's Personal Journey
In 2015, while trying to get pregnant, Katelyn was told by her OBGYN that she had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). After talking to multiple doctors and doing lots of research at home, she realized PCOS stems from a hormone imbalance caused by years of eating processed foods and ultimately from external stressors, such as overworking. This hormone imbalance affected her on a variety of levels including, feeling fatigued, tired, anxious, and more.
At this time she became aware of how our everyday activities can cause a variety of stressors that can affect our body not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. She had to make some huge lifestyle changes in a few different areas of her life to balance her hormones naturally. She made it her personal goal to research and find more holistic ways to control stress-induced hormone imbalances.
The first decision was to reevaluate her occupational stressors. She found that she was working more than double the number of hours she should have been as a massage therapist. Did you know... 17 hours a week of hands-on work is considered full-time for a massage therapist? Neither did she! With that finding, in 2016 she decided to stop working for a big corporation and go work for smaller family-owned businesses where she could have a more flexible schedule. This allowed her to lower her stress levels on a physical level.
In 2017, with the understanding that what we consume plays a significant role in how our body regulates hormones, she decided she needed to adjust her nutritional wellness goals. It was suggested not only by the chiropractors but was also stated in multiple articles for women struggling with PCOS to go sugar, gluten(wheat), and dairy-free. With the encouragement of her co-workers at the chiropractor's office, she started managing how she was fueling her body.
