Generational Motivation that Inspired our Business
As Katelyn sets goals for her future, she always asks herself where does she see herself when she is in her 60's. This is an emotional question for her to ask herself, unfortunately, three of Katelyn's grandparents passed away under the age of 60 years old. This is a scary thought knowing that her father is currently in his 60's and has lived a longer life than both of his parents. Her dream is to be healthy enough to take her grandchildren on adventures like hikes, camping, kayaking, and other fun outdoor activities! This healthy active lifestyle at the young age of 60 years old is something that most of her grandparents were unable to achieve.
Her paternal grandfather was very successful in running his own business but was so consumed (and potentially over-stressed) with work that he did not take good care of his health. He passed away from a heart attack before she was even born and unfortunately he was only in his late 30's/early 40's.
Her paternal grandmother was a very busy woman working multiple jobs and raising 3 children. Like any other mother, she most likely put others' needs before her own and didn't take much time focusing on her well-being. She passed away very unexpectedly in her sleep in her 50's. She was supposed to be getting on a flight that morning to come to visit her son and grandchildren in St. Louis.
Her maternal grandfather passed away in his early 50's when she was only a teenager. He was a recovering alcoholic and was happily sober for one year before unfortunately passing away from pneumonia after a bad car accident. He had been a chain smoker for the majority of his life which ultimately increased his risk of getting pneumonia. (A study shows men and women who smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day were almost three times more likely to acquire pneumonia than persons who never smoked.)
She learned a lot from these grandparents. As a business owner, she has realized how important it is to balance work and personal life. By creating a positive work environment she can focus on her career while not feeling consumed or overwhelmed. As a working mother, she understands that she needs to prioritize her own well-being in order to stay happy and healthy in order to support and care for her family.
